The Uruguay coat of arms features and oval that is flanked by two olive branches (which represent peace). The Sun of May is rising at the top. The oval is divided into four sections. The oval depicts a fortress on a hill in the upper right section, which shows strength. In the upper left corner, a scales is drawn. The lower right part shows an ox, which stands for abundance. The last section on the Uruguay coat of arms shows a horse, which represents liberty.
The Uruguay coat of arms was adopted in March of 1829.
