The North Carolina flag is made up of two horizontal bars of even length. They are red and white. A vertical blue bar is located on the left side. In this blue field, two yellow letters N and C are separated by a white star.
The two dates inscribed above and below this are May 20th, 1775 (date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence) and April 12th, 1776 (date of the Halifax Resolves). The North Carolina flag was adopted in 1885. A similar version existed in 1861.
