The Missouri flag is made up of three horizontal stripes of equal size. They are red, white, and blue. The state’s seal is located in the middle. It is surrounded by 24 stars, which represents the fact that the state was the 24th state to join the Union.
The colors of the Missouri flag show that the state was once part of the Louisiana Territory (controlled by France). The colors also stand for purity, valor, justice, and vigilance.
The Missouri flag was designed by Marie Elizabeth Oliver. It was adopted in 1913.
